The NYLO Warwick

August 30, 2008

NYLO Hotels – the new chic, trendy hotel chain has opened its second location in Warwick, RI, and I am getting the opportunity to check out this amazing hotel Labor Day Weekend. After visiting their web site at www.nylohotels.com you get the sense that these hotels are something very different from the ordinary. Now on my second night at the NYLO Warwick, I have to say that it is very much true.[NYLO PHOTO GALLERY].

NYLO Warwick Lobby

Upon arrival to the NYLO Warwick, the exterior screams new and bold. Arriving at 7:00 p.m. , tiki torches lit my way into the entrance of this old industrial area now transformed into this chic hotel. The lobby was everything I expected it to be. It’s very much as if IKEA or CB2 decided to make a hotel. Hanging bubble seats, libraries of books, benches, cool, serene lighting – you instantly feel relaxed. The staff was friendly and helpful, directing me to the elevator of my loft. Leaving the elevator on the third floor, you instantly noticed the many art pieces adorning all the walls. I spent quite a bit of time walking the hallways admiring the artwork.

My black key card had the words: OPEN – UNLOCK UNIQUE. And boy, does that say it all. You notice right away that this hotel room is different from any other – it is a true industrial loft room -  the floors, walls, and ceiling are cement. Upon entering you have a closet area and desk area. TheNYLO Warwick Loft Bed Keurig coffee maker is an impressive touch – water and Keurig coffee pods are complimentary. The bathroom is spacious and bright with a mirror that nearly transcends the width of the bathroom, and a shower stall with rain shower head that reminds me of something out of Star Trek. The couch area comes complete with a lap desk and ample lighting. The most amazing part of the loft is the bed and window area. The bed is a specially designed NYLO NYTE bed, and is by far the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The area comes complete with phone, iHome alarm clock and LCD TV. In back of the bed is small space and an industrial sized window. I had a great view of the river.

Every piece of the room complemented each other – it is the perfect design for a loft room. I kept asking myself two questions, “Where am I?” and “This is how much?”. You would think it’s NYC and a huge price tag. NYLO boasts reasonable prices in great locations. This type of urban experience elsewhere would definitely cost a pretty penny. I know I like a hotel, when I don’t feel like going anywhere other than the hotel grounds.

With that, I bagged all plans to head into Providence and went to the Fitness Center. Equipped with weights, iPod ready LifeFitness machines, and his/hers saunas – I was able to get an intense workout in. After showering and changing, I went to the Loft restaurant on the first floor. Nylo Warwick The Loft Restaurant The staff was friendly and courteous. The Sour Apple martinis were superb. I enjoyed the Torched Ahi Tuna with mango-papaya salsa and Trio of Rhode Island sliders which includes lobster salad, crab cake, and angus beef burgers. The Loft restaurant is sight to behold. Nautical and serene instantly pop into mind with its beautiful mesh of blue and white, seashell filled glass tables, and dock like bar seats . It’s a great place to hang out, have dinner, and catch up with old friends. And don’t miss the funky billards table at the end of the room. The only downside to the Loft is that it closes way to early at 11:00. This can be easily a place that people want to stay till 2:00 a.m. with. My advice is to offer dinner to 11:00, but keep the Loft bar area open to 1:00/2:00 a.m.

I have one more night left at the NYLO and I’ll be updating as I go along. On tap for tonight: another workout, dinner at the Loft, and simply enjoying the room. In the meantime, check out the NYLO photo gallery here.

Update 9:42 p.m. 08/30

I am back in the Nylo Loft enjoying the green apple martinis – they make them so well. I ordered Molasses brined Heritage Pork loin with parmigiano black pepper polenta, ham greens, and espresso gravy. I’m not sure what that all means, but it sounds really good.

10:18 p.m.
The pork loin was FRIGGIN’ AMAZING. Who would think that molasses and espresso would go so well. If I could lick the plate clean I would.

Sunday 09:00 a.m.
Yet another awesome night’s sleep on the NYLO Nyte bed. Headed back to the NYLO Loft for breakfast. I am having a scrumptious sounding spinach, two day tomato, ricotta insalata omelette.

One thing I noticed is that the same staff members are working day and night the whole weekend. The staff has been nothing but courteous, friendly, and helpful. They really care about the NYLO and making sure the experience is a good one for their guests.
