iPhone apps I love Part 1: Twinkle by Tapulous

August 14, 2008

The new app store available through iTunes is probably the most significant feature added to the iTunes store since it’s inception. There is no need to scour the internet to find your favorite application for your iPhone. Just load up iTunes and click on the app store, and voila! Apps for your iPhone are made available to you. Moreoever, if you want to download them on the fly from your iPhone, the 2.0 software has an app store icon. Updates are just as easy too – all apps are updated through the iTunes store or if you press the app store icon on your iPhone and click on the updates button.

Applications on your iPhone is nothing new to adventurous jailbreakers, but now the rest of us get to play too. With apps, the iPhone becomes a mobile computer.  In a series of posts, I’ll focus on the apps that I use and love the most! With over 52 downloaded so far, I have a lot to play with.

I love Twitter. I love posting what is going on with me, and I love reading about all the people I follow too. Twinkle provides you with a great interface to access your Twitter account. You can update your status, catch up on your friends’ tweets, read your friends profile, and send direct messages to them. But perhaps, the sweetest feature of Twinkle is that you can read the tweets of fellow twitterers nearby. I have my settings set to 25 mile radius, and boy am I hooked. I love seeing what people are tweeting near me. It was also great to have this feature on vacation – it was great to read tweets from locals and you know that anyone using Twinkle within a certain mile radius will see your posts as well. I found myself asking for advice on restaurants and places to go, and within a matter of minutes I was getting responses.

Twinkle also allows you to attach photos from your camera or iphone photo library directly to your tweet as well. If you using Twinkle, then you will see the image attached to the tweet; otherwise a URL will be attached to your tweet for your non-twinkling friends to view. If you are Twitter hungry, then this is the best Twitter app by far.
